How I Got Scammed As A Ghostwriter (It Happens More Than You Know)

Although I have been successfully ghostwriting for a number of years. I was scammed in 2021. If you’re active in freelancing communities you may have heard of this scam or experienced it yourself. While the internet is infamous for stealing ideas, identities, and private information. I was not aware of this particular scam at the time. I’m sharing this story with you to keep you informed and alert of potential scams online. Please be cautious and diligent about accepting freelancing projects from potential clients.

On a average day, I browse job boards for potential writing opportunities. Sometimes I land a client, a rejection letter, or get crickets. After a while, you become accustomed to not getting every writing gig on the market. This particular time, I received an email from a potential client. I eagerly opened the email and began reading.

Now, I normally will apply for writing jobs through Facebook groups or official job boards where the recruiter has a email available for contact. Thus, I was not actively keeping track of all the emails I was sending at the time. When this email landed in my inbox, I assumed it was legitimate.
