Seven ways to earn money ghostwriting (you can use to start earning today!)
When it comes to earning a reliable source of income from ghostwriting, many people are scratching their heads. It’s pretty common for a ghostwriter to feel frustrated when attempting to attract clients online. The biggest mistake many new beginner ghostwriters make is applying for writing gigs on job boards. Oftentimes, the job board is filled with potential scams and underpaid gigs.
In this article, I’m going to share with you seven proven ways that I generate an income from ghostwriting each month as a ghostwriter. First, a little background about me. I’ve been writing for eighteen years as a freelance content writer. Most of my early work as a writer began on blogpost.com as a book reviewer. I started by interviewing aspiring and published authors. Later in my career, I began writing for online media publications as a contributing writer for no pay, just exposure.
Today, I am a highly sought-after ghostwriting professional with 3,000 + followers on LinkedIn. On Twitter, I have 7K followers & 4.9 followers on Facebook. I generate an income of $10,000 per month as a ghostwriter working from home. Now, I want to help you do the same.
- Get Social- One of the biggest attributes of earning money as a ghostwriter is to become socially active on social media. If you’re anti-social, you will block all of your earning potentials. Many people online support my business, blog, and events because of how active I am on social media. It’s important to humanize your online presence and attract potential clients with your personality. I support my followers and they repay me with retweets, shares, comments, and referrals.
2. Blog your expertise: When people go online to search for a topic or subject, a blog post will come up in the search engine results. Most people think blogging is a waste of time or frivolous activity. I believe blogging helps to boost your credibility online as a ghostwriter. The more you are able to blog on a particular subject, the better you are exposing yourself to future writing opportunities.
3. Network in person: One of my favorite activities to do monthly is to get out into my community and meet professional people in real life. Networking for a ghostwriter is essential to staying on top of the list for business referrals. If you’re an introvert like me, you can attend one networking event monthly. Be authentic and humbly brag about your business. Be prepared to exchange contact info.
4. Start a digital store- I recently launched a stan store in 2022. This is a great way for potential clients to review my work. Also, it helps attract clients who want to learn the business of ghostwriting. With a stan store, you can create digital products such as ebooks, courses, and merch, and offer one on one consultations.
5. Optimize your LinkedIn profile: LinkedIn is no longer a platform for bragging about your professional accolades. Today, LinkedIn is one of the top platforms for building an impact and following for content creators. As a ghostwriter, you want to ensure that your profile title highlights your skills, the clients you work with, your guarantee for results, and your personality. It’s important to post frequently on the app to help people get to know you and your business. With the right profile, you can attract a high-profile client in less than 30 days.
6. Video marketing is key: For many years, I have always been a little camera shy. I often stumble over my words and feel as though no one is listening to me. Well, once I conquered my fears of public speaking I leaned into video marketing. With successful platforms like Tik Tok and Instagram, I can promote my ghostwriting services without sounding salesy. I always implement a problem in the video title to help my videos become searchable online. Try it today!
7. Create a community: One of the biggest opportunities for earning money as a ghostwriter is by creating a community. I’ve always been a lurker on Facebook groups. A few months ago, I decided that being a lurker was not beneficial to my business. I created a Facebook group for aspiring writers to ask questions and more. When you create a community, you build a foundation of trust in the community. Thus, you open the door for people to want to work with you one on one as a ghostwriter.
Lastly, being a ghostwriter is a great opportunity to work with brands, corporations, influencers, and much more. Consider your bandwidth to accept projects, pricing, and managing tasks as an essential skill you will have to master over time. As a ghostwriter your earning potential is unlimited. You are your own boss and people will be happy to work with someone like you.
Happy ghostwriting!
