The Freelancing Scam You Need To Know About & How To Protect Yourself

In 2021, I was scammed by a potential freelancing client.

I had been freelancing for a few years and was always cautious when it came to accepting jobs, but this one seemed legitimate.

The client emailed with details of a writing project.

The writing project was on a project for a detailed report on social media. The client mentioned that she was special needs and could not communicate over the phone.

She also mentioned that she would be paying a fixed amount upfront for the project and then the remaining balance upon completion.

All of this seemed normal to me, so I accepted the offer and got to work.

However, as I was working on the project, red flags started popping up.

The client would often change the scope of the project or make unreasonable demands.

And when I asked for clarification or more information, she would become defensive and aggressive.

I began to feel uneasy about the situation, but I had already put in a lot of time and effort into the project, so I continued on.

Finally, it came time for payment.
