What You Should Know About Freelance Writing For Magazines or Websites

--

One of my dreams growing up was to become a journalist for high profile magazines like Essence and Ebony Magazine. Growing up I was an avid reader of Essence, Hype Hair, Seventeen , and Redbook magazines. As I grew older, I began reading the editors note and following their career paths online. My first attempt at becoming a journalist started shortly after high school. I applied to a local college for the journalism program. Unfortunately, my test scores were not sufficient to permit me into the program. Thus, my dreams of becoming the black Carrie Bradshaw were quickly dashed.

That is until, the rising climb of online blogging catapulted me into the amazing world of freelance writing. While my dreams of writing for the worlds top magazines fell to the short end of my list. I began building my online creditability as a freelance blogger. Early on in my career, I began writing as a contributor for online women based media platforms. Within a few years, my contribution as a writer began to merge into writing anonymously for digital media brands. To date I’ve written for tech startups, beauty brands, nonprofits, and education magazines.
